Preparing For Testing

Before Test Day

What do I need to bring for my standardized fitness test?

Please bring the following items:

  • Government-issued photo identification, such as a driver’s licence, passport, or health card.
  • Comfortable athletic clothing.
  • Clean indoor running shoes with good grip.
  • A printed or digital copy of your paid transaction or booking receipt.
  • A printed copy of your completed testing package, where required.

A valid physician-signed or stamped medical clearance form, medical referral form, or PARmed-X form may be mandatory if required by the applicable testing protocol or health screening process.

What should I avoid before testing?

Before testing, candidates should avoid or abstain from:

  • Food or drink approximately 2 hours before testing.
  • Caffeine products approximately 2 hours before testing.
  • Stimulants for at least 24 hours before testing.
  • Alcohol for at least 6 hours before testing.
  • Vigorous exercise for at least 24 hours before testing.
How early should I arrive?

Participants should arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled testing time. This allows time for registration, document review, blood pressure and heart rate screening, and preparation before testing begins.

Late arrivals may not be admitted once the session has started and may lose their testing opportunity.

How long does testing take?

Depending on the type of test and the number of participants, candidates should expect to be at the testing site for at least 1.5 hours, not including early arrival and registration time.

What happens when I arrive at the test site?

Upon arrival, the testing team will:

  • Greet you and confirm your registration.
  • Verify your identification.
  • Collect and review required forms.
  • Take your blood pressure and heart rate where required.
  • Explain the test and demonstrate the protocols.
  • Provide a warm-up period.
  • Administer the test and provide your time or results.
What is the 20 metre shuttle run?

The 20 metre shuttle run, often called the beep test, is a progressive aerobic fitness assessment. Participants run back and forth between two marked lines over a 20 metre course while keeping pace with timed audio signals.

As the test progresses, the time between signals becomes shorter and the running pace increases. The test ends when the required pace can no longer be maintained according to the applicable testing protocol.

Workshops

Preparation Workshops

Do you offer workshops for the tests?

Yes. Fit To Serve Canada offers preparation workshops designed to help candidates better understand the structure, pacing, movement expectations, and physical demands of standardized fitness assessments.

Workshops may include preparation for tests such as PREP, PARE, FITCO, the 20 metre shuttle run, and other occupational fitness assessments depending on availability.

What can I expect at a workshop?

Workshops are designed to provide a practical understanding of the assessment. Participants receive a breakdown of test components, performance strategies, movement guidance, and recommendations to help improve readiness.

Facilitators may demonstrate required protocols and guide participants through selected elements of the test. Practice time may vary depending on safety, group size, and facilitator discretion.

Does attending a workshop guarantee that I will pass?

No. A workshop cannot guarantee a passing result. However, preparation can help candidates better understand expectations, identify areas for improvement, and approach test day with greater confidence.

Registration & Attendance

Booking Your Session

How do I register for a test or workshop?

Registration is completed online through FareHarbor. Select the test or workshop you want, choose the available date and time, and complete the booking and payment process.

What does “unavailable” mean on a session?

“Unavailable” means the session is full or not currently open for booking. You will need to select another available date or time.

Will I receive reminder emails?

Your booking confirmation and receipt are your primary confirmation of the date, time, and location you selected. Candidates are responsible for noting and attending the correct session.

Additional reminders may not always be sent.

Can I bring a friend or family member?

Testing and workshop areas are reserved for registered participants and staff. Friends, family members, or support persons may not be permitted inside testing areas due to space, safety, facility, and protocol requirements.

Results & Certificates

After Testing

Will I receive my results after testing?

Yes. Candidates will receive their results or certificate of results after the completed test, depending on the assessment and applicable protocol.

Candidates are encouraged to scan, photograph, or securely save a copy of their results for their own records.

Will Fit To Serve Canada forward my results to my recruiting agency?

Result forwarding depends on the agency, test protocol, and booking requirements. In many cases, it is the candidate’s responsibility to keep and provide their certificate or results to the appropriate recruiter or agency.

Where a protocol requires Fit To Serve Canada to forward results directly, this will be handled according to the applicable process.

Payments, Refunds & FareHarbor

Payment Processing

How are bookings and payments processed?

Bookings, reservations, and payments are completed through FareHarbor. FareHarbor securely processes payments through Stripe.

Fit To Serve Canada does not directly collect or store credit card information.

Can I get a refund if I cannot attend?

Please be sure of your availability before booking. Testing and workshop sessions have limited spaces and require staffing, facility booking, and operational planning.

Once registered, testing and workshop fees are generally non-refundable unless otherwise stated in the specific booking terms.

Can I change my date or time after booking?

Date or time changes may be limited because each session has a restricted number of spaces. Please review your booking carefully before completing payment.

If you need assistance, contact Fit To Serve Canada as soon as possible with your booking details.

Should I book multiple dates?

No. Please do not book multiple dates. Sessions have limited capacity and are administered under strict testing and staffing protocols.

Duplicate bookings may not be refundable.

What should I do if my credit card payment does not work?

First, confirm that your card number, expiry date, CVV, billing information, and cardholder name are entered correctly.

Because payments are processed through FareHarbor and Stripe, some payment issues may need to be resolved through your card issuer or the payment platform.

If the issue continues, contact Fit To Serve Canada with your name, the session you are trying to book, and a brief description of the payment issue.
